Veer north of Germany's Bavarian Alps and you will find yourself miniaturized amidst awesome Romanesque architecture and famed historical occupants: Mozart, Strauss, and Rilke, just to name a few. Munich may be breathtaking in is beauty and its arts, but expect to be thoroughly thawed by some of the most famous Deutsch biers, pretzels and schnitzels. I plan to spend the first leg of my trip with eyes wide in the Marienplatz, but when night’s curtain falls I’ll be the first to oblige to the city’s famous Englischer Garten, the most popular of the 20 beer gardens that dot Munich’s grand opus of artistic and antique excellence. This is the near-perfect destination for a 20-something college graduate. That is, Bavaria’s capital bears the cultural exposition necessary to feed my taste for experience and entertainment while also preserving a historical retrospective to get at my inner nerd. Plus, my boyfriend is studying there, and he’s fluent in German!
