Trip: Beach Bummin' San Diego

Heading to San Diego on Monday the 18th to see the sights, loiter on the beaches, and taste the local flavor. Would love cheaper places to stay, that are preferably near the beach (a tall order I realize). Let me know if you'll be there concurrently or have some recommendations.
