Jamaica Travel Guide: Reviews, photos, & videos
“It is the fairest island eyes have behold; mountainous and the land seems to touch the sky.” Christopher Columbus said this in 1494 about a little island in the Caribbean that he’d just “discovered” - an island you may have heard of called Jamaica. Quick, what's the first thing that pops into your head when you hear the word Jamaica? Most of you are probably envisioning Bob Marley, or the classic 90's comedy Cool Runnings, or maybe someone saying "Yah Mon!" There are definitely stereotypes that pop up when one thinks of Jamaica, but I've found that the real thing is always better. So let's learn about the real thing: Jamaica is an island nation of the Greater Antilles, located in the Caribbean Sea about 90 miles south of Cuba and 120 miles west of the Dominican Republic. The island itself is 145 miles in length and nearly 50 miles wide - slightly smaller than New Jersey.
And of course, there's plenty of fun to be had! Get that tan you've always dreamed of on the sugar-white sand beaches of Montego Bay; check out the bustling night life or stop by the Bob Marley museum in Jamaica's capital city of Kingston; or venture up into the lush
terrain of the Blue Mountains and learn first hand why Mr. Columbus got so darn excited in the first place. So, take Cool Runnings out of the VCR, hit pause on "No Woman, No Cry," and get your butt down to Jamaica now, mon! Because remember, the real thing is always better, especially when the real thing is Jamaica.
