Eastham Travel Guide: Reviews, photos, & videos
In 1644 the Pilgrim’s settled in what is now known as Eastham in Cape Cod. Although there’s very little evidence to support this, one would think they chose this gorgeous town as an ideal settlement due to its breathtaking scenery, beautiful bayside and stunning ocean beaches. Located in southeastern Massachusetts spanning the arm of Cape Cod, the coastal resort community of Eastham is flanked on two sides by land and on the other two sides by bodies of water: the serene Cape Cod Bay and the roaring Atlantic Ocean. With a year round population of just under 5,500 and 20,000 during the perfect summer months, Eastham is an ideal vacation spot for those seeking solace amongst the miles of pristine beaches, untold amount of biking and hiking trails, historic buildings and schoolhouses and even the Cape’s oldest solely wind-driven windmill. And with plenty of Eastham vacation properties and even a few prize Eastham beach houses, there are now innumerable ways to experience this former Pilgrim village in all its glory.
For first time visitors looking to get an overview of the phenomenal scenery and Eastham real estate, head over to the Salt Pond Cape Cod National Seashore Visitor’s Center which runs numerous programs, tours and even a small museum that can give visitors a unique perspective on this exceptional town. Those wanting to explore the Eastham public beaches should look no further than the Coast Guard Beach and Nauset Light beach which are both part of the Cape Cod National Seashore. After filling in those tan lines on the gorgeous Eastham beaches, head over to the historic Penniman House - a partially restored whaling captain’s house circa 1868 – and the aforementioned Eastham Windmill – the oldest windmill in all of Cape Cod. And it should be known that having a digital camera on oneself is absolutely necessary in a place as photogenic as Eastham! Looks like the Pilgrim’s knew what they were doing.
