Southampton Travel Guide: Reviews, photos, & videos
There were only ten original settlers of Southampton back in 1640. Nowadays there’s plenty more, although this pristine vacation haven definitely still imbibes that secluded and serene feel the original settlers must have felt back in the 17th century. However, this time around people have indoor plumbing! Located partly on the South Fork of Long Island, Southampton is definitely the commercial center of this region and is often considered one of the Hamptons most prestigious communities. With plenty of prime Southampton real estate located in what’s lovingly known as the “estate section” of the village located north of the Atlantic Ocean front, there are plenty of prime spots for those seeking a Southampton vacation rental or a beach house in Southampton. If you like star gazing, stop at one of the elegant European cafes along the main strip in Southampton. You might bump into the likes of Barbara Walters or Sarah Jessica Parker.
For those searching for scenic nature spots in Southampton, check out one of the many public parks like Agawam (with 60 acres of fresh water), Lola Prentice, Flyer Point or the Richard L. Fowler nature Walk. Anyone need a day at the beach? Well with over seven miles of phenomenal ocean front property, ten Southampton public beaches (Fowlers Lane, Cryder and Wyandanch etc.) and a few private ones as well (Dune Beach), there are plenty of sandy spots to stretch out and sun! For the history buff a visit to spots like the Thomas Halsey Homestead –built in 1648 and the oldest English frame house in the state – and the Monument Square –built in 1897 for the Southampton soldiers and sailors who served their country – provides plenty of photo ops. And to think this all started with only ten people!
