Montauk Travel Guide: Reviews, photos, & videos
If Billy Joel used to summer in the pristine hamlet of Montauk back in his hey-day then there must be something to the place. Located within the town of East Hampton at the tip of the South Fork peninsula, Montauk is one of the major tourism destinations within the Hamptons thanks to its gorgeous beaches and six state parks. Featured prominently in the hit Jim Carrey film "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind," Montauk also lures folks in with its world class fishing and surfing. With a plethora of Montauk vacation homes and rental properties in Montauk, there are now more ways than ever to find the perfect lodging for the perfect vacation. And with many of the hotels only open from April through November, there are tons of deals available for those seeking a Montauk vacation rental during the less crowded fall/winter months.
So what’s to do in Montauk? Enjoy the pristine natural settings in one of the six state parks! Whether it’s hiking in Hither Hills State Park or catching some waves at Amsterdam Beach State Park or (in the winter) cross country skiing at Camp Hero State Park, there’s literally something for everyone in Montauk. For some great photo ops check out the Montauk Point Lighthouse which holds the claim to being the first lighthouse in New York and the fourth oldest light house in the United States that’s still active. And for the eager fisherman, head over to scenic Lake Montauk for a relaxing day with some beer and bait out on the water. Looks like ole’ Billy Joel was right!
