Hyannis Travel Guide: Reviews, photos, & videos
When it comes to famous families it doesn’t get much bigger than the Kennedys. So where on earth would this world famous clan lay its enviable roots? Why in Hyannis of course! The largest of seven villages in Cape Cod, Hyannis is not only home to the Kennedy’s, but is also often referred to as the unofficial capital of the Cape. For anyone visiting Cape Cod, a visit to Hyannis should be one of the first things on the list! The largest recreational boating spot in Cape Cod, Hyannis is the main port for those wanting to make trips to Nantucket Island or the lovely Martha’s Vineyard. But enough about places you can visit from Hyannis – what about things to do in Hyannis. Well, first things first – it’s never a bad idea to explore the veritable opportunities to secure some unforgettable Hyannis vacation rentals and make your Cape Cod vacation special.
With the rental homes in Hyannis ranging from WASPY mansion to quaint bungalow, the choices of real estate in Hyannis is bountiful, not unlike the scenery! Check out Hyannis Port – home to the West Beach Club, the Hyannis Port Yacht Club, and the Hyannis Marina. Just enjoy some delicious sea food or maybe rent a boat from the marina to explore the gorgeous harbor (and maybe do a little fishing). Or test out the limits of that new Platinum Card by venturing to the historic Hyannis downtown on Main Street and the Rte. 132 commercial district for some delightful shopping opportunities. And then go explore the fascinating (and often sordid) Kenney history at the JFK Hyannis Museum in the old Town Hall on Main St. Although the main focus of the museum is on President John’s F. Kennedy’s time spent in the town, a good bet would be that a conversation with an old, friendly local might lead to some more of the lascivious tales we’ve all heard before. And to cap it off, head over to the Hyannis Armory – which is in the National Register of Historic Places – where JFK gave his presidential victory speech on November 9th 1960.
