Duck Travel Guide: Reviews, photos, & videos

Much like its name, the town of Duck is very simple; however, in this case, simple is a good thing – a very good thing! Located in a charming section of the northern Outer Banks, the seaside town of Duck is known for it’s quaint central downtown, gorgeous natural scenery and miles of pristine Atlantic beaches. Speaking of beaches, the Duck beaches are consistently ranked high on the Travel Channel’s yearly America’s Best Beaches list, and the vast open waters are perfect for surfing, fishing, kayaking or just some good old-fashioned sun bathing. However, one thing to note is that the Town of Duck actually has no public beach access, which means only folks who are staying or vacationing in Duck can get on the beach. Thankfully, with plenty of Duck vacation rentals and the bevy of affordable beach houses in Duck, getting on the pristine shores is actually pretty easy (and not too expensive).

And on the upside, the lack of public beach access only means more room to spread out and enjoy the marvelous landscape! For those interested in fishing, cruise over to the other side of the island to Currituck Sound – a serene spot to let your reel loose and relax while the plethora of fish below contemplate the bait. For the fitness or nature nut (who are sometimes one in the same), check out the Duck Trail. Winding through the typically serene Outer Banks scenery, the Duck Trail is ideal for walking, biking, jogging or – for the health conscious parent – baby walking (Note – baby should be in a stroller, not on a leash). Are you one of the lucky ones visiting Duck in the month of July? Well check out Duck Municipal Park every Tuesday and Thursday during aforementioned month for some free live music under the stars. And with plenty of ocean front Duck real estate, you can enjoy the music of the ocean under the stars on any night of any month. Or check out the vacation homes in Duck for some spectacular deals on some spectacular houses. So don’t be fooled by Duck just because of its simple name. The simplicity is what keeps bringing people back!
