Switzerland Travel Guide: Reviews, photos, & videos
If the Brady Bunch lived in Europe they would live in Switzerland. While this claim is not based on any extensive research or exhaustive studies, it is based on the fact that the perfect family would deserve the perfect place to live. And Switzerland truly is the perfect place to live. It’s also a great place to vacation. Heck – it’s a great place to do anything! This landlocked alpine country is one of the richest countries in the world features some of the most stunningly perfect natural scenery the world over. Bordering France, Italy, Austria, Liechtenstein and Germany, Switzerland – as a country – is often defined by several key words: prosperous, clean, mutli-lingual, multi-cultural, peaceful, neutral, stable and – last but not least – beautiful. The three main cities in Switzerland are Berne (the capital), Zurich and Geneva. Zurich and Geneva are routinely voted as the two cities featuring the highest quality of life in the world and all three cities are major tourist draws providing beautiful architecture, immaculately clean streets and spectacular mountain scenery.
For those hoping to engage in the more outdoors aspects of Switzerland, the ideal first stop would be the lovely town of Interlaken. Meaning “between lakes,” Interlaken – which is in fact locked in by the gorgeous Alpine Lakes Brienz and Thun - is the outdoor and actions sports capital of Switzerland (and maybe the world). Willing travelers can engage in a number of intense activities including skydiving, bungee jumping, hiking, canyoning and para-gliding. For those wanting to take an excursion into the awe-inspiring Swiss Alps, the mountain village of Grindelwald is the best bet. This tiny little town is the perfect gateway into the untamed and mostly untouched wilderness of the Alps. A hike to various peaks can be quite an undertaking adventure so make sure enough supplies are brought to endure the long trek. Grindelwald is also a great spot for those wanting to partake in the perfect skiing and snowboarding provided by the bountiful Swiss winters. St. Moritz – located 1, 856 meters above sea level – is another prime (and expensive) ski destination. And with world famous celebrities like Shania Twain and Celine Dion owning property and second homes in Switzerland it’s no wonder people continue to flock to this pristine and perfect country year after year. Who knows? The actual Brady Bunch might move their soon.
