Punta Cana Travel Guide: Reviews, photos, & videos

"Golf. Beach. Repeat." If Punta Cana were a bottle of shampoo, that might be the directions posted on the back. However, Punta Cana is not a bottle of shampoo and there’s so much more than golf and beaches to discover and experience in this Dominican paradise. Located in the easternmost province of the Dominican Republic, Punta Cana is a bustling port town with a population just north of one hundred thousand and is often considered one of the most popular tourist destinations in the DR. Bordering the Atlantic Ocean, Punta Cana is home to a 30 mile stretch of picture perfect white sand beach, a never ending queue of swaying palms, and an atmosphere that's perfect for friends in need of a party, families in search of paradise, or lovers looking for a little privacy. The azure blue skies, non-stop sunshine and perfect, balmy weather (in every season!) don't hurt either.

And for those interested in a pristine piece of property, the Punta Espada currently has a number of wonderful slices of land perfect for that new vacation home. The newly constructed Punta Cana Village – featuring some quaint local restaurants and shops – is also a refreshing escape from the resorts (but make sure to get a rental car). There’s also Manatí Park (a water park that puts Sea World to shame), Plaza Bolera Punta Cana (a bowling alley and shopping center), but for those seeking a party zone Punta Cana is more for those seeking a quieter and more private vacation; however, head over to the nearby Bavaro for a night life and club scene that’ll give new meaning to the term “dance all night.”

Punta Cana and Playa Bavaro

Trying to pick just one beach to write about in the Dominican Republic is a lot like trying to pick a favorite child. They're all so beautiful and special, it's impossible to pick just one. That's why I've decided to cheat and write about two. To be fair Punta Cana and Playa Bavaro are pretty much the same beach. They share the same 30 mile stretch of picture perfect white sand beach, the same never ending queue of swaying palm trees, and an identical atmosphere that's perfect for friends in need of a party, families in search of paradise, or lovers looking for a little privacy. And with over thirty different all-inclusive resorts scattered throughout these two beaches there is no lack of options. And yes, all-inclusive does mean "everything taken care of." Four of the most beautiful words ever heard when on vacation.

Golf in Cap Cana

On most golf courses, the typical obstacles include a man made water hole with a few fish thrown in for good measure; however, in Cap Cana that obstacle would actually be the azure waters of the Caribbean. Which one sounds better? Located about ten minutes from Punta Cana, Cap Cana is a rapidly emerging beach and golf "hot spot." With five golf courses – three designed by some famous golfer named Jack Nicklaus – Cap Cana is one of the hottest, fastest growing golf sites in the world. It's recently attracted the PGA tour, thanks to its breathtaking views of the Caribbean. And I'm sure the azure blue skies, non-stop sunshine and perfect, balmy weather (in every season!) didn't hurt either. Check out Punta Espada – one of the aforementioned Nicklaus Signature Golf Courses – for over 7,000 yards and 18 holes (8 of which play against the back drop of the Caribbean) of the best golf not found at any local country club. And for those interested in a pristine piece of property, the Punta Espada currently has a number of wonderful slices of land perfect for that new vacation home.

    Punta Cana, Dominican Republic

Punta Cana is home to many of Dominican Republic's resorts catering to visitors from all over the world. If you are seeking a family-friendly, time-scheduled, culturally rich vacation in warm Caribbean weather then Punta Cana is your ideal choice. There are so many resorts that dot the southeastern coast of this island paradise that availability is never an issue and the rates are affordable. Along with local cuisine offered buffet-style, they also house 4-star restuarants, casinos, and a nightclub. It is a perfect slice of tranquility for those seeking it, for these resorts lie on quiet white sand beaches unlike their sister resorts in the capital...which you can also hop on a tour bus to visit the historic capital of this marvelous island.
