Spending New Years in Munich was one of the most exhilarating experiences of my life! We all have to let loose sometimes and the night life in Munich has everything to offer, especially during New Years Eve. There are countless parties organized across the city open to anyone who is ready to eat, drink and party! Even though our lodging was in the outskirts of town, public transportation was readily available and easy to understand. We took the metro straight to Theresienwiese and exited right into the Tollwood festival ground which hosts a legendary New Year Eve’s party. Even in the freezing snow, I couldn’t help but feel warm and bubbly as the line moved along and I stepped closer to the tents, music, flashy lights and murmuring of enjoyment all around. Each tent offers a different music genre for your dancing pleasure. There’s also an entire food pavilion to keep your energy up and spirits high. A wondrous paradise for the party animal in all of us, I can’t wait to go back because there is also an annual summer festival. Although I expected the partying to be fantastic, I was pleasantly surprised by the safe transportation options offered. The metro actually stays open all night, so you can get home safely even at the crack of dawn. Oh, how we love you Germany!
Munich represents Germany in all of its splendor. With a combination of bustling city life and relaxing park areas Munich reminds me a lot of a German version of Austin, TX (my current place of residence). You can do a whole host of things in Munich ranging from seeing amazing and historic architecture to visiting several of the gorgeous parks. My travel buddy and I went on an amazing bike tour through the city (highly recommended) and visited much of the most "tourist" type attractions. The most memorable moment came when we visited the Hofgarten. There is an open aired dome in the middle of the park that apparently has the best acoustics in the world. Only the best local musicians are allowed to play inside the dome, and when we arrived an elderly man playing the cello serenaded our ears with the dulcet tones of an old Bavarian folk tune. Never have I experienced live music in such a unique and captivating way. Oh yeah, and Munich is apparently famous for its beer. If you're into that sort of thing you can check out any of the amazing "biergartens" or the world famous Hofbräu house for some delicious and probably not nutritious home brew.
