Montreal Travel Guide: Reviews, photos, & videos

One of the largest French speaking city behind Paris of course, Montreal actually has a good amount in common with the City of Love: mainly the rich culture and history paired with the lively party scene and a bevy of attractive and fashionable citizens. The second largest city in
Canada with a population of 3.6 million, Montreal is located in the southwest portion of the province of Quebec where it serves as the social and cultural epicenter of the region. And with such a diverse and vast population, the Montreal real estate is some of the best in the region. Whether it’s a vacation home in Montreal or one of the new high rises in Montreal, the amount of lovely lodgings found here are never lacking.

For some of the most pristine outdoor scenery in Montreal visit Mount Royal Park. One of Montreal’s largest green spaces, the park was designed by Frederick Olmstead (who also designed Central Park in New York City) and boasts the massive Beaver Lake, Mount Royal Cemetery and a stunning view of downtown Montreal from a perch atop Chalet du Mont Royal. Want to experience the gorgeous history and architecture of Montreal, well make sure to visit Old Montreal which contains most of the old historical buildings built back in the 17th, 18th and 19th century as well as several museums. A walk through the pristine Place d’Armes at night-time is especially serene.

    Montreal for foodies

I’m a Francophile on a budget. Half a dozen plus trips to France have only kindled my appetite. But malheursement, a worker bee like me can’t jet off to France every time I get the whim. So my husband and I decided to head somewhere our dollar goes further – Montreal. Much of my love of France has to do with food, so our time up north was spent eating, planning to eat, and searching for restaurants, cafes and markets. But we had a few hours between meals each day to wander and work up our appetites for another round of Québécois cuisine. Fortunately, Montreal offers the visitor plenty to do besides eat. Though its Metro is convenient, much of the city is quite walkable, especially if you head to the underground city where you can stroll for miles without a hint of the bitter winds above. Worth a visit – the Basilique de Notre Dame, so magnificent that the Irish-American architect reportedly converted to Catholicism after building it and is actually buried in the crypt. And burn off the poutine with a climb to the top of Chapelle Notre-Dame-de-Bon Secours, also called the sailor’s church, and explore the quirky museum on the ground floor. By now you’re surely ready to eat again.
